It is a film about the invisibility of domestic violence. Based on Super8 family archive, the director is questioning her grandmother Rose who continually dismantles the image of postwar West German family happiness. The film focuses on the discrepancy between appearance and remembered reality.

Vakıf, a 60-year-old Kurdish man who grew up in a nomadic tribe in the mountains of southeast Turkey, recalls moments from his youth that have shaped his life. He takes us back to his idyllic childhood with his mother, his first love found in a cotton field and lost in the woods, and the mistreatment suffered at the hands of the police, in a cold and dark place.

BETWEEN DELICATE AND VIOLENT
‘Between Delicate and Violent’ is an experimental documentary that considers hands as memory places that can both accumulate and transfer memories. Through hands and their creations, it imagines unearthing lost memories that have not been included in performative, socially acceptable family albums. Can we see the violence of the painter’s hands in the brush strokes of his paintings? Could cross-stitch be an alphabet of some sort?
