RETURN TO THOSE DAYS
Poland, 2021, 104 min., feature film
A sentimental return to the golden ’90s – when youth had a taste of bubble gum, the respect of your peers was won with a collection of Lego blocks, and the imagination of Poles was fired by cult VHS movies. These unforgettable realities become the setting for a moving story, based on true memories, about family, growing up, and the dark sides of each of us. It’s the early 1990s. Fourteen-year-old Tomek lives with his mother (Weronika Książkiewicz) in a housing estate in Wrocław. Like many of his peers, the boy grows up without a father who has emigrated to the USA. However, one day, Alek (Maciej Stuhr) unexpectedly arrives at the family home. Together with him, Tomek gets a colour TV, Lego blocks, Nike shoes and a VCR of his dreams. However, the Malinowskis’ happiness does not last long because Alek’s return brings back old problems. Will his loved ones manage to help him before it’s too late?
