OTHER PEOPLE

Poland, 2021, 106 min., feature film

A film adaptation of Dorota Maslowska’s novel. Other People leads us through the world of its main characters – contemporary Warsaw, Poland – in an innovative and uncompromising way. They are accompanied by a hypnotic beat composed by Auer, which becomes a mantra and the axis of narration. Auer is one of the most important Polish music producers. He is known for his solo performances and cooperation with Koka Beats, Pezet’s label, including Muzyka Współczesna and the track “Nisko jest niebo” by Pezet feat Kayah.

Other People is a mesmerizing story of a desperate search for love. The story of people entangled in a love triangle in times of broken bonds, lifetime loans, boxed diets, cheap wine and the constant buzz of social media. People struggling in the maze of boulevards and backstreets of the city of Warsaw, which pulsates to the rhythm of rap. The characters are accompanied in their everyday life by a carefully observing narrator.

At first glance Kamil and Iwona have nothing in common. Iwona is the bored and unhappy wife of Maciek, living in credit-purchased luxury. Kamil is 32, has a sexy girlfriend Anecia, but still lives with his mother in a neighborhood of large blocks of flats, dreaming of a rapper career and doing random jobs. His relation with Iwona is seemingly meaningless, but because of it they will both see their life choices and people from a different perspective.
