Mariusz Wilczyński

A director, screenwriter, performer, self-taught animator, graduated in painting and wood-cutting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. He is a student of Prof. Stanisław Fijałkowski and Prof. Andrzej Marian Bartczak. Wilczyński’s works of art have been presented at numerous individual and collective exhibitions worldwide, including London, Sofia, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Chicago, and their author was awarded the Grand Prix at  10. Ogólnopolski Przegląd Grafiki Młodych (the 10th National Graphic Arts Review of the Young) in Cracow in 1987 and honoured at the International Graphic Arts Competition “Exhibition of Print” in Yokohama (1989 and 1990). He has been creating his own animations for 20 years. His adventure with film began with small functional forms for television, and he won his first film awards for animated music videos. His works have been shown in New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMa), the Museu Nacional da República in Brazil, the Tokyo International Forum, and the National Museum in Warsaw. Wilczyński also creates performances with live orchestral music, presenting them all over the world – from Paris and Hong Kong to Tokyo, Geneva and Lviv. Joshua Siegel (Curator of Film at MoMa) said of him: “Wilczynski is among the most outstanding animation artists in the world today.” Since 2003 he has taught painting and drawing and classical animation at the Kunstunivestitetat in Linz and the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz.  He has taught classical animation for 13 years at the Łódź Film School (PWSFTViT), where he received his Ph.D. in 2009. “Kill it and leave this town” is his first full-length film.

The meeting will take place after the screening of the film “KILL IT AND LEAVE THIS CITY”.
