Katarzyna Klimkiewicz
A film director and scriptwriter. She graduated in direction from Łódź Film School and then travelled the world. She was awarded a scholarship from the Binger Film Institute in Amsterdam and made films in Berlin, Israel, Great Britain, and Chile. Her short film debut “Hanoi – Warsaw” won many awards in Poland and abroad, and was acknowledged by the European Film Academy as the Best Short Film of 2010. Moreover, the film was awarded at, among others: Polish Film Festival 2009; TOFIFEST International Film Festival, Torun 2010; Batumi International Art-House Film Festival, Georgia 2010; Alcalá de Henares Film Festival – ALCINE, Spain 2010; Lady Filmmakers FF, Beverly Hills, USA 2010; Almaty International Film Festival, Kazakhstan 2011.
She debuted in full-length film in the UK with “Flying Blind”. The premiere of the film took place at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2012, where it was nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film, and at the Festival of Film Debuts in Koszalin it received the Great Jantar Grand Prix, the Best Director Award and the Journalists’ Award. This film was released in the UK and Poland in the spring of 2013. Her latest film “The Island” won the Main Prize in the Short Film Competition at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in February 2014 and the Grand Prix at the Huesca International Film Festival in June 2014. Her second full-lenght film “Autumn Girl” will have its premiere in November. Katarzyna Klimkiewicz is a member of the European Film Academy, and for many years she was a trustee and president of the Film 1.2 Association.
